One day the kids wanted to eat some veggie while they were on the roof so we brought up some condiments – soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, ketchup, olive oil, and a can of mixed nuts – and harvested some greens. We harvested lettuce, basil and purslane. The kids tried different combinations of veggies and condiments to explore how each creation tasted. Some were simple (i.e. lettuce-nuts-vinegar or puslane-oil) while other liked everything mixed together. Some even made small leafy sandwiches (i.e. basil-nut-basil) and others got inspired to bring more stuff from home to add to the yummy edibles. What a great way to enjoy the green roof.
